Monday, monday. la laa la laa laa laaaa

Not sure if you all know that song but it sure is something you can hum along too…since I don’t know any words but Monday and La.  🙂

Janathon…Janathon…Janathon.  I didn’t get my Saturday post in within 24 hours, but that’s because I didn’t do any “exercise“.  Did a bunch of walking around the house and ran some errands – but nothing you would define as “exercise” for the day.  Bleah.

Sunday, January 13th: Ran 5.5 treadmill miles.

Push up challenge:  10 FU’s and a bunch of planks.

Who out there as an iFit enabled piece of exercise equipment?  Well ever since iFit changed their website my treadmill has not communicated at all with my iFit website.  So annoying when you pay for a service that no longer works.  I sent an email with my issues a bit ago and am waiting for the response.  I have another issue to write in about – “Unable to download workout – Error” that I got on my machine this weekend.  ARGH!

Monday, January 14th: A.M. free weights for the arms.

Push up challenge: 10 FU’s and a few chaturanga’s too.

I’m going to take a run/walk up to the Starbucks at lunch time to get 2 miles in and hitting up Vinyasa Flow this evening.

This weekend HunBun and I are headed to Disneyland so I can run the 5K and Half-Marathon.  We’re hoping the weather stays clear so the Grapevine (I5 route’s through the mountains) is easy to drive.  Last weekend they closed it down for 20 hours…and people were stuck!  No thanks!

Enjoy your Monday!

See ya later.

Happy New Year and all that stuff!

It’s been a while for sure.  I decided to take a break from practically everything binding during the holidays.  I just flopped here & there depending on how I felt or what someone in the family decided they wanted to do for the day.  It was really cold up here in Northern California (I know 30’s are not cold to many of you…but it was hecka cold to us)…so we didn’t want to spend too much time out in that cold and brisky air.

I did run a 5K on the 29th and came home with a runny nose and stuffy head for the next 2 days.  I didn’t realize how cold it was going to be waiting for our start.  Then after you heat up while running it certainly doesn’t help to stop and cool down so suddenly.  But oh well.

So I decided on my 2013 resolutions.  2012 was sort of successful….but not completely – especially the financially based resolution.  I know most folks say the best resolutions are S.M.A.R.T – Specific  Measurable  Actionable  Reasonable  and Time Bound.  Mine are sort of SMART….

2013 Resolutions

I do like them a lot.  I have some health…some wealth…and some well-being going on.  They are all things that are hard to wiggle out of – which is excellent for me but also things that I need to pay attention to.  I’ll do a 6 month review to see how far I’ve come.  🙂

I did join the Janathon as a way to stay motivated at the start of the year.  Of course I failed on the first day…not doing the exercise but more the blogging after it.  So I’m going to catch up right now!

Tuesday, January 1st: Took a 2 mile walk with the HunBun to Starbucks.

Wednesday, January 2nd: 1 hour Vinyasa Flex class with Elise at XploreYoga.

Thursday, January 3rd: 30 min treadmill intervals & 20 min arms circuit.

So I’m going great for the Janathon AND resolution #1.  I do have to go to the grocery today for some milk and cold cuts for 12yo’s lunch and breakfasts…but not really buying a whole lot else – so that hits resolution #2.  I’ve also acknowledged myself at the end of the last 2 days – so ka-pow #3!

Whew!  Now to translate all this productivity and accomplishment to the work day.

See ya later!

Starting Saturday off with some Brisky Behavior.

Brrr…it’s chilly beans out there!

That’s at 8am!

Let me finish off my Friday before I get to the brisky behavior.  Get it?  ‘Cause it’s brisk out there?  He he he

Every other Friday I pick up 10yo from school.  He lives with his dad and it’s about a 40-50 min drive over to where they live, depending on traffic.  Lucky for me that on Friday’s 10yo’s school gets out at 1:30pm so that means less traffic that I have to deal with.

I usually eat lunch before I drive out there, but since they just opened a new outlet mall halfway between our house and the school the news has been showing the ridiculousness that is people trying to get there to spend money!

Parking lot to get to the parking lot

So being the smarty that I am I figured I’d leave 40 minutes earlier than normal just in case…which meant I needed a to go lunch.

They make some fancy boxes now

Open sesame

I put together a whole wheat wrap with roast beef slices (the new healthy version from Oscar Mayer), hummus, arugula, goat cheese and olive tapenade (I love that stuff).  On the side I had baby carrots and a mix of gluten free crunchy stuff – Blue Diamond Almond crackers, GF pretzels and some cinnamon almonds.  Well the traffic didn’t even exist, so I got to 10yo’s school an hour earlier and sat in front of it like a creepy person eating my lunch.  I did bring my work computer so I got a bunch of stuff I needed to get done – done.  Hoorah for multi-tasking!

10yo and I picked up 12yo from school and we booked it home so I could finish up my work day.  Then while the 2 boys plyaed XBox, HunBun and I dropped my car off at the dealership for a 5K mile service appointment.  It gets so dark now!  It’s like we were on a date – but actually just driving home from Toyota.

I was lazy so for dinner I made everyone GF pancakes.  Wheee!  I used Pure Pantry’s all purpose GF flour and added some vanilla and cinnamon.  This mix makes really nice pancakes that hold their shape – although I am the worst flipper ever.  Kept slapping them against the side of the pan or on the pancake next to it.  Utter ridiculousness.

I like jelly on my cakes

After dinner I spent the rest of the night reading all my bloggedy blogs I subscribe to and cleaning up my email bins.  Since I can’t just sit there, I was also “watching” Tattoo Nightmare followed by InkMaster.  Those tattoo artists are SO TALENTED!!!!  Tattoo Nightmare is one I’d watch again.  They help people who have janky tattoos and turn them into beautiful new ink.  It was crazy how they made the old tattoo just disappear.  Check it out on your boob tube when you get the chance!

Saturday’s brisky behavior

So last night I tell HunBun, “hey lets walk to Starbucks tomorrow morning”.  Well he tells me that he was already going to wake up early and do that since he had more work to get done.  So I, being committed and all, said “oh, well maybe I’ll just run on up there and meet you”.  So that’s what I did.

Rise and Shine

I used my new Timex GPS watch and apparently need to go back and read the manual again.  I kept pressing all the buttons on the side and FINALLY got the GPS on along with the run feature so I could get a move on.  Then off I went….then back home I came after realizing I forgot to take my medicine (I have a hard time remembering I need to take on an empty stomach)…then off I went (take 2).

I should have taken a picture of my cold weather running outfit – fail.  I don’t have long tights, just mid-calf length.  I wore a pair of those with my long sleeve “thumb-hole” Lululemon jacket’y thing and my awesome new Champion beanie I got from Target.  I looked so cute – you’ll just have to take my word for it. 🙂  That hat was the best $10 I ever spent on running clothes.  Kept my ears nice and warm which helped control the speed my nose ran.  HA!

Even with the chilly air wooshing in & out I kept a nice pace of 8:45.  Sweet!  I could see HunBun sitting at a table drinking his Starbucks and pecking away on his laptop.  It was warm when I got in there so I got a cool drink to start.

Chilling with my lady friend

I just read that caption I wrote.  I meant the ‘Bucks mermaid, not the banana.

HunBun and I sat there for a while and then walked back home together.  Grabbed a tall Soy Misto for the road since I had cooled down quite a bit.  Thank goodness I did because it was hecka chilly outside!  Round trip its about 2.5 miles from home to the ‘Bucks.  Nice walk for him and nice run/walk for me (not the true application of Galloway‘s run/walk method 🙂  ).

To close out the morning Sweats I did a bunch of planking….

Not this kind

I started with some Chaturanga then a quick plank flow to engage my abs.

Click the link above to see in action

Here’s my quickie ab routine

Now I’m off to feed my belly as a girl can not live on a banana alone.  🙂

Engage in some “brisky” behavior yourself today!

See ya later

What would you do?

Would you rather exercise more or eat less?

So I’ve been doing this Green Smoothie challenge that I found on vedgedout’s blog.  Now I’m only on Day 2 so it’s likely this whole idea is coming from a state of confusion brought about by my lack of salt or sugar or chips or bread or eating whatever I feel like putting in my piehole…anyhoo.

A little eating background.  I don’t eat terribly every day.  I usually eat a protein pancake and fruit for breakfast and get a Starbucks Soy Misto if HunBun’s home.  I’ll have a honeycrisp apple with some nut butter for a morning snack with or without a Starbucks Soy Misto.  (If I don’t go to Starbucks I’ll make a homemade matcha green tea latte or a homemade mocha or hot tea or just some hot water with lemon (like my grandma used to – which as a kid I thought was very weird…oh no, I’m an old lady 🙂  )  Back to my eating habits.

For lunch I’ll do a couple different things like saute a bunch of veggies with Bragg’s Amino’s or make a wrap with roastbeef and stuffed with veggies and goat cheese or a nostalgic PB&J.  Depending on how full I am I’ll add a piece of fruit to round it out.  Afternoon snack (if I remember to fit this in before dinner) usually consists of a protein shake or some veggies and hummus or another piece of fruit.  Dinner is chicken and veggies or sometimes I eat what I cook for the family.  HunBun gets annoyed when I cook their food first then cook mine while they start eating – so I try to make stuff for me that’s super quick so everyone’s not done just when I put my plate down to eat.

So really I eat pretty well – normally.  Now when we go out to eat or go on vacation I do splurge a bit more.  I love mexican food and adore the chips and salsa that our local joint (La Pinata) puts on the table before our food comes.  OM-super slurptastic!  I could eat chips and salsa all day long…if it didn’t kill my healthy living goals.  I also LOVE LOVE LOVE a good dessert.  In fact I tend to look at the dessert menu BEFORE I order my meal just so I know if I should order something smaller so I can save room at the end.

Now that I’m getting older (WAH!) I do feel like I need to do more exercising or eat less calories in order to maintain the fit of my clothes and not have to buy new ones.  I did say fit of my clothes as I don’t really let the number on a scale annoy me as much as it used to (I just let it annoy me a teeny bit).  So long as my pants fit well and I don’t shriek in horror everytime I take my clothes off..I figure I’m doing OK.  Hahahaha!

So my question to HunBun this morning was “would you rather exercise more or eat less?”  His immediate answer?  “Eat Less”.  Wha?!?!

I think I’d prefer to exercise more so I can eat what I want to (in moderation of course) and enjoy being alive and being able to taste some of the wonderous Eats out there.

So I guess I answered my own question – “Exercise More“.  Which means no more hitting the snooze or “forgetting to set the alarm”.  No more weekend chill outs because the work week was “so exhausting”.  No more excusing out the need to drive to yoga.  No more taking the easy route on circuits, speed work and hill repeats.  No more thinking about what my body can do but rather letting my body DO.

So that’s me…2 months early for resolutioning.  I will be Exercising More so I can put a little more in my piehole and not angst about it.  Hahahahaha!

See ya later!

Weekend Wrapup

So guess where HunBun and I went this weekend?

Sweet treats…

Oh yeah…DISNEYLAND!  We’re so ridiculous I know.  🙂   HunBun was down south for a work meeting all last week so he suggested I fly down Friday after dropping 12yo off at school for a quick weekend trip.  I of course said “eeeeeeee” – then got mature and said “yes, let me plan that”.  I travel a lot for work so was able to use Southwest points for a one-way to Orange County and Hilton points for 2 nights at the Hilton Anaheim.  SWEET!

Our first stop once we got in the park was to Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe for their Chicken Salad Sandwich and the Turkey Sandwich with Gluten Free bun for HunBun.  They have the best kettle chips – so thick and crispy.  YUM!

I grabbed a picture from foodspotting since I crammed that thing in my piehole so fast I didn’t even think of docu-blogging it in a picture.  Of course HunBun got all annoyed at the lady at the counter – if you get gluten free anything at the park be prepared to wait at least 10-15 minutes for your food after you order it; well he went to check on his sandwich and she completely ignored him while helping everyone else – as he sees his sandwich sitting right next to her.  So he finally says, “um excuse me – but I’m waiting for my sandwich right there” and she says “oh, well I’ve been waiting for you to come back”.  (Insert angry fist shaking here).  It’s little stuff like those things that make having dietary restrictions such a pain in the patootie when you leave your house.  So after that awesome start we headed off to my favorite ride – of like ever…

Nightmare Before Christmas style. Whee!

We rode this one 3x in a row before getting on some other stuff they got over there.  HA!  Indiana Jones was closed – refurbishing or something or other – big sign on the fencing said it’ll be back Winter 2012.  Our Jungle Cruiser was really punny on the trip – it’s always nice when they go off script a little to include what’s happening in the boat.  The ones who just recite the puns and jokes get a little boring.

I just can’t ride Space Mountain or Star Tours anymore – I try – then regret my attempt as soon as they start the rides up.  I seriously have to keep my eyes closed and my mouth clamped shut or else the folks around me will be hating life…and me until they can buy a new change of clothes and some water for their hair.  I did try Expedition Everest when we went to DisneyWorld this summer – bad move on my part.  I can do Tower of Terror though – so bizarre.  So unless 10yo comes with us, HunBun is relegated to all the easy rides unless he goes by himself.

Disneyland wasn’t very crowded for being a Friday afternoon.  We got on all the rides we wanted to with very little to no waits.  We usually FastPass rides while we wait in the lines – so we get a FastPass for Haunted Mansion then wait in line to ride.  By the time we get through the line it’s time to use our FastPass.  So smart right?  🙂

I spotted this on the “Times flyer”… and that dictated where we were spending Saturday morning.

Yep.  We spent the morning over in California Adventure instead.  Since that park doesn’t open really early we got to sleep in a little before heading over for a day of line-standing.  We got into the park relatively quickly (because you know time is relative in Disney) and while HunBun headed over to the Carsland FastPass line I headed over to get this little beauty…

Marriage made in Heaven

Yes.  Starbucks has landed…in California Adventure’s Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Cafe.  I got my now go-to drink a Soy Misto along with a cup of berries to go with my Cashew Cookie Larabar.  Got to get at least 1 “good for you” meal in a day while on vacation.  I grabbed HunBun a Skinny Caramel Machiatto…to which he said “oh, you should have just grabbed me a coffee” (insert angry fist shaking here)  🙂

So now we had time to kill and rides to find until our 1220-120 FastPass window opened for Radiator Springs Racers.  The park was not crowded at all!  We jumped on ride after ride and even gave The Little Mermaid ride another chance (not for us).  We just think they could have done so much more with that ride than what it is…

For lunch we ate at Award Weiners where I tried the FrankenWeenie.

Disneygeek.com

It was tasty…but looks very Frankenstein-ish.  I thought I was going to have a massive belly ache after eating it but it wasn’t so bad – must be the bacon right?!?  Of course no photo – BOOT!  So I stole one of the interweb from the OCRegister.

Doesn’t that look healthy? Not really.

Right after we ate our weiners we walked past Tower of Terror to get to Carsland to use our FastPass and saw that ToT only had a 13 minute wait (spooky).  So we jumped on and I screamed as we went up then down then up then down then down then up then down…..  AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

Even with a FastPass you still have to wait in line to ride the Radiator Springs Racers…BUT the line employee up front asked for 2 people and we jumped!  They directed us to fill in a car for someone who was in a wheelchair…and while we were waiting we noticed a Disney employee with a visitor.  Well it was one of those Backstreet Boys (the dark haired one)!

It was this one – Kevin

Then as we were leaving Carsland we saw him again with the other guy…this one.

We knew his name – Brian

We didn’t take photos…cause we didn’t really care (and think that’s rude).  Although I did make a funny (I thought so) post about seeing them and that they were “Incomplete”.  Get it?  Like their song…Incomplete?   Bwahahahah!

We wandered around California Adventure until about 230 then headed over to Disneyland where hopefully the taping of the Christmas Parade was winding up.  Instead of wading our way through the crowds lined up along Main Street U.S.A we jumped on the train and rode our way to New Orleans Square to hit up the Haunted Mansion, again!  For those of you who haven’t seen it decorated for the holidays…here’s a vicarious ride along for you!

We did a FastPass line wait/ride again.  It was so crowded at the park and I don’t think just because of that parade taping.  So we stopped at Mint Julep Bar so I could eat some Mickey shaped beignets and stare at people (I mean people watch).  To suit the holiday season, they had pumpkin flavored beignets.  I didn’t really taste the pumpkin – they just tasted like a less sweet version of the originals.  Didn’t photo (as usual) but this was more because my fingers were covered in crack sugar.  So I grabbed a photo from The Disney Food Blog.

From Disney Food Blog

This was my sweet treat from the Parks.  I didn’t get a Dole Whip this time, the lines were ridiculous on Saturday and Friday was too chilly to get one.

We did go to Storyteller’s Cafe over at Grand California for dinner Saturday night and ate the buffet.  I did grab a bunch of desserts – which my eyes liked more than my belly.  I ate so much to the point where I said “if I eat one more bite I will literally puke”.  😦  I had 2 plates: green salad, potato salad, roasted veggies, fruit salad and 2 cups of chicken corn chowder.  Then the plates of dessert.  Whoo whee!  We certainly got our money’s worth there!  Took a few photos after the fact, when my brain registered it should’ve done that.

Overall we had a super nice time, just HunBun and me.  We left the hotel at 440am to drive home.  We got to Anderson’s over in Santa Nella a bit before 9am for our regular breakfast stop.  We reached home around noon.  Hoorah!

Hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as I did!  I’m back to normal living this week – starting a Green Smoothie Challenge (I got from Vedged Out) and hopefully going to yoga every night this week.

See ya later.

Business Trip…I thought I was prepared

Carry-On Packing…It’s a 2 day affair

It’s a business travel week and after a short work week last week post-Half Marathon/Holiday and no travel before, I guess my heart wasn’t in it.  Post-run shower, Sunday morning, I started laying out all my clothes for the 3 days I need to pack for.  I don’t know about you other travelers, but when I pack for business travel I usually have to try on my bottoms (never my shirts – odd).  My legs are really long and I always need to make sure my pants haven’t shrunk between uses or that they don’t flop around like 70’s era bell bottoms (what is up with work pants that do that???).  So I tried on my planned outfit bottoms (I should have taken pictures – der) and had my pants/tops folded and ready to be put in the carryon.  Then I decided to try on a dress that I probably bought 2 years ago and put straight into my closet – I mean it still had the tags on for goodness sakes!  I decided that I’d wear dresses and sweaters to lead my meetings this week instead of my normal pants & tops ensembles.  I thought it’d be less clothes to pack – but it’s exactly the same number – 1 dress & 1 sweater per day.  I only liked 2 of the dress/sweater combos so I packed my favorite Ann Taylor LOFT capri pants and an Ann Taylor striped dolman-ish sleeved top.   **Self reminder: Take AM photos with each outfit so I can start a fashion post like my favorite blogger PBFingers!

I also laid out 3 exercise outfits, my Garmin & iPod Nano – anticipating that I would keep my pinky swear to exercise while traveling.  Couple of t-shirts, capri jeans for afterwork and pj’s and my clothes were ready.  They all got into my carry-on.  I love my carry-on bag.  It’s a Diane Von Furstenburg (is that how you spell her name) that I got from TJMaxx.  I like it because I have not seen anyone  with this bag on all the trips I’ve been on.

DVF Carry-On

You think no one carries it because it’s ridiculously bright and girly?  🙂  There is a ton of room and I can shove it in every overhead bin on every plane I’ve been on.  That’s the best part.

I finished packing up toiletries this morning and told HunBun “Hey, if I forgot anything I’ll just go to the store..hahahaha”.  Der!  On the way to the airport my brain finally registered that I FORGOT TO PACK DEODERANT!  Major oopsie.  So I’ll be CVS‘ing in Westlake after work tonight.

Morning Eats

One of the pains of business travel is the ease in buying/eating not so healthy food.  Although I will say the airport shops have gotten better with having the one tiny section of healthy snacks (which are ridiculously expensive, so beware).  It’s also easy to pick up a Starbucks since you’ve got time to kill while waiting for your plane.  To minimize my eyeballs telling my brain and tummy that it needs that snack/Starbucks…I started my morning off right!  3-ingredient pancake with Peanut Butter & Co White Chocolate Wonderful PB  (OMG!!!! Wonderful is an understatement!!!) and STUFT Mama‘s Cherry Mocha Smoothie.   Here’s a step by step of the smoothie…the “pancake” cooked while I zipped this up.

See ya later!

Super Sunday!

Happy Super Sunday folks!

Woke up early to join my meetup group Go Far Run in Campbell, CA for a group run.  More like a solo run…but you met the group before you started.  For the first meet up I liked it…but I’m really looking to find a running partner – so we’ll see.  I’ll sign up for the next Go Far Run group event after my race next week.

Starbucks Touchscreen Storefronts

Starbucks Touchscreen Storefronts (Photo credit: DavidErickson)

On the drive home I stopped at the local Starbucks and picked up a grande coffee for HunBun and a Grande Soy Skinny Vanilla Latte for me.  Yu-um!  I’m sure I could make this at home but our darn Keurig‘s on the fritz again.  Sounds like an old dirt bike is trying to get one last mile out before it starts shooting smoke out its parts.  I wish our local ‘bucks had these cool touchscreens although I’m in and out of there so quick that it’d probably be faster to just order like a normal person.

Signing Papers

We had to go find a Notary to sign more documents for our Disney Vacation Club.  Our first DVC vacation is next February!  I, we I mean, can’t wait.

Lunch

Asian “tacos”

Lunch was Beef Brats for HunBun.  Steamed on the stove then rolled around in the hot pan for some color…the Brats not us (Bwahahaha).  I made “Asian Tacos”.   I called them that when I started making them – but then they morphed out of Asia when I added some feta for flava!   I didn’t take a picture post “taco” build…der.  I’ll have to remember for next time.

Asian “Tacos”

2 Handfuls of Broccoli slaw + 4 Cherry Tomatoes + 1/4 block of firm Tofu (squished into the pan).  Squirts of Bragg’s Liquid Amino and Sriracha.  Stir fry then split between 3 Guerrero Corn Tortillas.

Eats!

Off to do more weekend “chores”…
